An interactive crash course about art

Kiss the Frog worked together with the Gemeentemuseum and Kossman.dejong on a complete renovation of the “Chambers of Wonder” exhibition. With this close cooperation an interactive journey was realised, in which the visitor steps into the role of a curator as they learn about fine arts, fashion, decorative arts and architecture. The ultimate goal is collecting enough artworks to furnish your own virtual miniature gallery. After a partial renewal Chambers of Wonder 3.0 was opened in 2019. The project has won multiple awards and has been received very well both inside and outside the Netherlands. Next to the concept and multimedia, Kiss the Frog played an important role in the complete renewal of the graphic design in Chambers of Wonder 3.0.

The adventure for the visitor starts with a film in which the ”Wonderkids” ask for help curating the “Magic Middle”, an exciting maze based on a spectacular design.

A tablet, the Wonderguide, is used to guide the visitors in pairs through the adventure that binds together all thirteen rooms of the exhibition. There’s a wayfinding system based on augmented reality markers in the floor.

The tour is educational without being stuffy. Visitors dance with Mondriaan himself to discover how the rhythm of the Boogie-Woogie influenced his paintings. They can try haute-couture dresses on a catwalk and they are challenged to select the correct tools used by artists in a crazy tool shed.

During this crash course visitors earn point to purchase an art collection, with the goal of furnishing and designing their own virtual Chambers of Wonder. Just in time for the spectacular opening.

“The Gemeentemuseum and Kiss the Frog added another dimension to museum experience for children with the Chambers of Wonder.”
