My Stories

My Stories is an experience at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (in Glasgow, Scotland) for young people who may not ordinarily visit museums. With this interactive tablet tour, teens are given the feeling they have something to look for in a museum and it makes them feel welcome. The young people, aged 12 and older, are received as a group in My Stories Headquarters. Here they are shown a short introduction video and tablets are handed out. After the video, they enter the museum in pairs or threes with a tablet. The tablet is used to scan the special My Stories QR codes throughout the building. The youngsters are assigned challenges on the tablet at various places in the museum. Being able to find the way to this challenge is an essential part of the experience. The teens are guided by a map on the tablet and by QR codes in the rooms. When they arrive at the location, they can start a new challenge by scanning a QR code. The aim of the challenges is to encourage young people to think about art. There is no right or wrong answer. The application is mainly intended to give young people more self-confidence and let them know that their opinion matters. After 45 minutes of challenges throughout the museum, the group reunites at the My Stories Headquarters to discuss the results and their experiences under the guidance of a teaching assistant. In the end, an outro video is shown. Kiss the Frog was responsible for designing and developing the complete experience (tablet tour, headquarters application and projection). In addition, we have made the spatial design and the interior design of the My Stories Headquarters.

Using a tablet and working in small groups, participants are encouraged to explore the museum and take part in tasks, games, and challenges.

Because the QR codes in the museum are visible to every visitor, there is also a variant available for regular visitors. When scanning the QR codes with their own telephone, they get an introduction to the project and a number of assignments can be played.

''We are delighted with My Stories. It has genuinely helped us understand how we can offer new ways of engaging with people who really aren’t interested in museums.''
