Camp Vught

The temporary exhibition Crossroads Vught: 36 nationalities behind barbed wire brings to life the stories of six prisoners at Camp Vught. Using objects important in the main characters' lives, such as a book or a sewing machine, the exhibition follows the route the prisoners took. From the perspective of the six protagonists, visitors listen to their life stories.

Kiss the Frog was responsible for the exhibition concept, design, graphic design and interactive set-up. Together with Go Wonder, we developed the objects and audio scripts that unlock the life stories.

The lives of six prisoners are followed: Anton, Djajeng, Jane, Jules, Camp Hay and Meta. The six have one thing in common: they were all locked up behind barbed wire during World War II. Visitors choose one of six objects, a teapot, sewing machine, chess piece, book, typewriter or suitcase, to listen to the journeys told by the protagonists.

Besides the six life stories, an interactive display highlights the often extraordinary life routes of 74 other prisoners. People from European countries and from even further afield: the United States, Indonesia or Morocco, for example.

"The exhibition reveals how this place was one of the hubs in a global network of persecution and terror.”
