Digital magazines
Within each of the museum’s themes, several exceptional items have been designated as ‘Guide Objects’. These are pieces that challenge existing assumptions and cast a fresh light on a subject. To truly draw visitors into this narrative, Kiss the Frog developed an intuitive digital magazine. Visitors can seamlessly browse rich, in-depth information and discover how these objects have pushed the boundaries of our historical knowledge.
This is a great example of how we make complex content both accessible and engaging for different target audiences. Thanks to a clever layering of information, children might only read the headlines, while curious parents or experts can effortlessly dive a few layers deeper into the history.
Pioneers in sound and vision
Alongside the Guide Objects, specific pioneering themes and items are explored further in the ‘Pioneers’ installations. Equipped with a listening horn and an interactive screen, visitors can dive deeper into the story behind the object via thought-provoking questions. The answers are delivered through video interviews with contemporary residents of Gelderland, including Nijmegen, who repurpose ancient techniques or push boundaries today.
Emotions in art
For the exhibition ‘From Within’, Kiss the Frog developed an interactive installation that transforms how people experience art together. Visitors gather in front of an impressive, large-scale wall projection showcasing a rotating collection of artworks. Using consoles, they vote in real time on the exact emotion the art evokes in them.
As soon as the collective statistics pop up on the screen, they spark a lively conversation about how differently we all perceive things. It is a powerful example of how digital design can break the traditional silence of a gallery.
"This should no longer be a place where visitors silently shuffle past display cases, but a lively building where archaeology, history, future visions, and modern art meet."
Hedwig Saam, Director of the Valkhof Museum
